Robust development of a next generation platform autoinjector.

Sanner partnered with Gerresheimer and Midas Pharma to develop a next-generation autoinjector platform based on a standard ISO pharmaceutical cartridge. From early feasibility through to human factors engineering and performance testing, the project focused on delivering an innovative, reliable drug delivery device capable of administering high-viscosity biologic therapies while providing pharmaceutical companies with confidence in the platform.

Developing a novel autoinjector around a standard ISO pharmaceutical cartridge presented several complex engineering challenges. The device needed to deliver increasingly viscous biologic drugs within clinically acceptable injection times while maintaining a compact, intuitive design.

Our industrial design team developed intuitive user interface concepts and prototypes that included distinctive features that provide clear visual feedback throughout the injection process, enhancing both usability and patient confidence.
A comprehensive verification and performance testing programme was undertaken to generate robust data demonstrating the reliability and consistency of the device. This evidence provided confidence in the platform’s suitability for future pharmaceutical applications.

Sanner successfully developed an innovative autoinjector platform that combines improved performance with an intuitive user experience. The novel double-needle architecture enables faster delivery of high-viscosity biologic drugs, while the unique activation mechanism eliminates impact forces, improving device reliability, reducing mechanical stress and enhancing usability.
The extensive testing and human factors studies generated the evidence needed to build confidence in the platform, supporting discussions with pharmaceutical partners and positioning the device for future commercial development.
All deliverables were provided on time, in a state-of-the-art quality and exceeded expectations. The highly motivated personnel assigned to the project were very well trained and showed high levels of expertise. For specific aspects, trained experts from within the organization were allocated to the project. The team of engineers was supervised by senior personnel with excellent leadership and management skills."
