Science & Modeling
Sanner brings together scientifically minded experts who apply deep technical expertise to solve the most complex challenges in innovative medical device development.
Scientific instrumentation and complex devices demand specialist expertise to overcome technical challenges and turn innovative ideas into reliable, market-ready products. Our team of 150+ scientists and engineers brings the specialized knowledge and hands-on experience to solve difficult problems, navigate complexity, and move innovative devices from concept to reality.

Scientific expertise and engineering experience work together to create more reliable devices and identify potential issues before they become costly problems.
Our scientists and engineers approach each challenge from two directions: science predicts how a device should behave and why, while forensic engineering examines how devices actually fail and traces the cause back to design, materials, or processes. Applied throughout development, this helps close the gap between intended and actual performance before it becomes a deviation, redesign, or complaint.
Our team includes PhD and Master’s level scientists and engineers with experience across a range of disciplines including bio-engineering, materials science and physics. Our approach to science is underpinned by focused research, theoretical analysis and physical testing.

Sanner’s design centers in Cambridge, UK, and Durham, North Carolina, are located within two of the world’s most established life science and research ecosystems.
Our Durham site borders Research Triangle Park, a 7,000-acre research campus surrounded by leading institutions including Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and NC State. Cambridge sits at the heart of the UK’s life science sector, with access to the expertise and research of the University of Cambridge and the broader Cambridge innovation ecosystem.
Our teams participate in these communities rather than sit beside them, drawing on specialist talent and emerging technologies while staying close to the clients and collaborators developing the next generation of science.
Understanding the science behind a device is a cornerstone to making it well. Working with Sanner gives you access to a team of scientists with expertise in material science, fluidics, thermodynamics, surface chemistry, cryogenics and biophysics, offering a comprehensive approach to designing and developing devices that work.
Our in-house materials science expertise spans metals and alloys, ceramics, polymers and advanced materials. By understanding their physical and chemical behavior, we can model performance, predict failure modes and support more reliable device design.
